Rich expressive flavours of cassis, mulberry and a hint of eucalypt. French oak maturation adds touches of dark chocolate, cedar and spice.Download Full Winemaker Note
At release, the wine is a deep red with a vibrant purple hue.
The wine has an aroma of rich blackcurrant, subtle spice, tomato leaf and a touch of eucalypt. French oak maturation is also evident with subtle aromas of cedar and dark chocolate.
This is a wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant – a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.
This wine can be enjoyed upon release but will reward careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2023.

New Release Tasting
Glen Frederiksen, WineLinesOnline, September 2016
This red presents as an opaque dark purple, with crimson hues at the rim. Eucalyptus-tinged aromas lead to scents of tobacco and tomato leaf, black berries, minerality, and milk chocolate. Good acidity stimulates the palate, and classic cassis and wood spice carry through to the finish. There, youthful, fine-grained tannins poke through. While ready to enjoy now, this wine will continue to provide drinking pleasure for seven more years. Pair it with all manner of red meats, from grilled sirloin to lamb shank.
Isaac Baker, Terroirist, September 2016
Vibrant purple color. Aromas of cedar shavings, eucalyptus and black pepper accent the juicy red and black currant fruit. The palate shows fine-grained tannins and moderate acidity, framing this medium-plus bodied wine in a fresh package. Juicy red and black currants and plums mix off of loamy soil, eucalyptus, mint and espresso. Plenty of fruit but this has lots of freshness that make it easy and pleasant to sip, but enough to unpack for a few years in the cellar.

Food & Drinks
Blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis, spearmint and a savoury herbal note dominate on the nose of this Clare Valley red, with modest lacquer/vanilla notes hinting at oak. On the dry but fruit-forward, full-bodied palate the fruit is dark and chewy, highlighting blackberry, raspberry and plum notes while supported by anise, mint and secondary woody notes. Overall this is a sophisticated, silky Cabernet Sauvignon that brings mild tannins and a smooth, pleasant finish and thatÆs drinking beautifully now.
Andrew Graham, Australian Wine Review, April 2017
Dark colours and dark berry fruit with licks of mint and bark. No missing the story here! ItÆs typical Clare Cabernet. Tastes it too û ripe, young, blackberry flavoured. The key appeal is how much hearty Cabernet youÆre getting for the dollars. That raw finish and sweetness contrast is a little distracting, but the depth of flavour carries the whole wine forward, and the gruff Cab tannins will hook in many.

The lifted lively nose is resplendent with black currant, spice and espresso roast aromas. It coats the palate with a full-bodied, full-textured, full-Monty gusher of chewy cassis, mulberry, peppery and minty notes joined by tang-laden pie cherry persisting through the lengthy mouth-watering finish. ItÆs a bit taut at present handsomely rewarding a three-hour aeration/decant or careful cellaring 2018-2023.
Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, June 2017
This medium-bodied Cab¼ernet shows some of the varietyÆs hallmark auster-ity in its firm structure. Cassis, sage and red cur¼rant aromas and flavors finish crisp and lingering. Drink now with rare beef or lamb, or hold and drink 2020û2025.
